This season of Real Housewives of Atlanta has been one of the most scripted and a tad bit boring.
Clearly, this cast of women do not like each other and probably would not interact with each other but for their Bravo contracts.
If you are a glutton for ratchet tv, you probably watched this past Sunday's episode and watched the violent confrontation involving Tammy McCall, Kenya Moore and former NBA basketball player Glen Rice Jr.
Here's how the violent confrontation went down.
Tammy met up with her so called nephew Glen and his male friend at a restaurant in Miami and then invited them back to the house where the ladies were staying during this staged healing trip.
Bravo rented a yacht to transport the cast members to and from the restuarant.
During their yacht trip back to the vacation home, it was clear that Mr. Rice was not feeling Miss USA. It was also equally clear that Rice has an anger management problem.  A snap, albeit somewhat disrespectful, from Kenya should not have evoked such hostility in the young man.
The group finally arrived back at the house and decided to hang out by the pool.  At some point, Glen made his way over to Kandi and Kim 'Tootie' Fields.  For some reason, Rice became angry with the very pregnant Kandi when he assumed she was not friendly enough towards him.
Sidebar:  I have no idea why Bravo staff and security allowed this visibly unstable man anywhere near Kandi.  I digressed.
Rice eventually made his way back to Sheree and the other cast members.  At some point, Rice and Kenya had another awkward exchange which made Kenya uneasy.  Kenya then tells Tammy that Glenn is making her uncomfortable and therefore has to leave.
Sidebar:  Kenya is really throwing her weight around since she thinks she is Miss Bravo now that NeNe Leakes isn't around. This is like the third person she has ordered to be removed from a scene this season.  I digressed.
Tammy agreed and proceeded to walk Glen and his friend to the door.
True to her instigating and narcissistic self, Kenya approaches Glen to let him know, in front of the entire cast and Bravo staff, that he has to go because he was making her feel uncomfortable,  Clearly embarrassed and angered, Glen walks toward Kenya to give her a piece of his mind.  That's when all hell broke loose.
Glen pushed his "Aunt" Tammy to the floor, which caused her to hit her head on the marble floor and being subsequently knocked unconscious.  Bravo security then tackles the very irate and violent Glen and escorts him from the house.
Later in the show, the women are divided into groups to discuss the mayhem that just took place.
Phaedra and Sheree, who were paired together, somehow strangely compared the violent events of the evening to the Black Lives Matter Movement, whose main focus is on protesting Black men being unjustifiably killed by cops.

Sidebar:  I guess Glen represented the Black men killed by cops and Kenya represented the racist cops who kill unarmed Black men.

Phaedra and Sheree both blamed Kenya for escalating the situation that lead to Rice's angry and violent behavior and Tammy's injuries.
Well, it appears that Miss USA did not like being blamed for Rice's aggressively violent behavior. So she took to her Bravo blog to express her displeasure with Phaedra's Black Lives Matter comments.
Glen made me and Kandi uncomfortable on several occasions. He came in with a chip on his shoulder, calling us “b**** and hos.” This was difficult to witness. I clearly saw a pattern of disrespectful behavior. We were all drinking and having fun on the boat, but his first response to me snapping my fingers at him was aggressive and uncalled for. I laughed it off, but I noted it. He was then aggressive with Kandi, who is obviously pregnant. He threatened to show out “any b**** or hos try him or disrespect him,” and when politely asked to leave by Tammy, he charged at me calling me a “little b***” and pushed his own Aunt down to the ground.
I’m astounded by Phaedra’s blatant attempt manipulate the fans and incite anger against me. She stated that my reaction to Glen was the same as that of a “white women in suburbia” to an innocent Black boy walking down the street.
This had nothing to do with a “white women in suburbia” as Phaedra stated. Some men, like Glen, behave in a way that is unacceptable in society. We can feel a need to protect our men from unwarranted police brutality as in the Black Lives Matter campaign, but this is clearly not the same.
Further, if a man is acting in a threatening and aggressive manner thereby making women feel uncomfortable, we cannot ask them to leave? According to Kim Fields if we do, we are “hitting a hornet’s nest” and “provoking” a man. Shame on them! I do not have to accept a man’s abuse -- physical or verbal, black or white. Glen was abusive, period. I deserve to feel safe in my environment. I deserve protection. I deserve respect. This incident is not about a racial divide. I am a woman first.
These women are so resentful of my presence that they will always choose the side that is against me.  (Source)

Photo from
Former “Opie and Anthony” radio host Anthony Cumia was arrested on Sunday after allegedly beating his 26-year old girlfriend, Danielle Brand, who recorded a Periscope video showing her injuries and Cumia's erratic behavior after the assault.

The 54-year old disgraced shock jock was subsequently charged with 2nd degree strangulation, 2nd degree unlawful imprisonment, 3rd degree assault and 3rd and 4th degree criminal mischief.

According to, Cumia and Brand have been living in his Long Island home for over a year.  The couples' relationship has been described as violent and dysfunctional. “They fight constantly, and it gets ugly pretty often, but not enough for either one of them to leave,” the source stated. “She recorded another one of their fights a few months ago.”

On Monday afternoon, Cumia returned to his podcast and, true to his obnoxious and narcissistic form, made light of his arrest.

According to
[Mon]day, Anthony Cumia returned to his live show only one day after being released from Nassau County Jail. Some of the details Cumia shared included meeting cops who are fans of his show and the Opie and Anthony Show, getting handcuffed in the ‘good’ way as opposed to the more uncomfortable way, being offered a meal of a warm baloney sandwich and a glass of warm milk, taking a side trip to the hospital because he didn’t have his medication with him, and experiencing a ride on the prison bus to be arraigned. Listeners seemed happy to hear Anthony joke about his situation, laugh at his predicament, and show that he wasn’t hiding anything. (Source)

This week I learned about another case on Twitter (obviously not covered by mainstream media) from the timeline of @OKCART4JUSTICE.  This time, the case involved an Oklahoma City officer raping 12 American Black women and a minor while on duty.

The fired officer and now convicted felon, whose name is Daniel Holtzclaw, was found guilty yesterday by an all-White jury on 18 of the 36 counts he was charged with in August 2014.

Although Holtzclaw was charged last year, he was not fired from the police force until January 2015.

After deliberating for 4 days, jurors chose punishments ranging from 5 to 30 years -  if served consecutively, would total 263 years.

Holtzclaw, who had been on the police force for 3 years, would prey on black female victims who lived in predominately poor neighborhoods and had brushes with the law.  He would pull them over and rape them at abandoned locations throughout Oklahoma City.

Hotlzclaw finally came under investigation when a 56-year old grandmother filed a complaint against him for raping her.

At a press conference held today, 2 of the 13 victims, accompanied by Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin Crump and his legal team, spoke to reporters about their traumatic and brutal ordeal:
"I was violated in June by a police officer," Janne Lygons, one the victims, said. "He did things to me I didn't think a police officer would do."
Lygons said she felt that her life was in danger and thought that if she knew his name, he was going to kill her. She called police about the attack, which started the entire investigation.
“I was scared. I didn’t know what to do. I felt like I was in survivor mode, so I had to do what he was making me do,” Sade Hill said.
Hill’s parents asked how Holtzclaw could have been operating so long and demanded that he get the harshest sentence possible.
Hill’s parents asked that several city leaders and state leaders be investigated. (SOURCE)
Grace Franklin, who is one of the founders of OKCART4JUSTICE, stated during the press conference that Holtzclaw was acquitted of raping or sexually abusing 5 of the 13 victims.  So 5 of the 13 victims did not receive justice with the guilty verdict.

Holtzclaw will be formally sentenced on January 21, 2016.

YouTube Blogger and Journalist Tim Black interviews Gina Best, the Mother of slain Veteran India Kager, who along with her baby's father, Angelo Perry, were murdered by four white SWAT tactical officers on September 5, 2015 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Monday, November 30, 2015

Updated 2/21/2016:  I want to correct some information that has been subsequently clarified by India Kager's Mom, Gina Best.  India Kager and Angelo Perry were not in a relationship. Perry was married at the time of his death and was living in Georgia with his wife.

Perry and Kager had a one night stand which produced a child.  Throughout Kager's pregnancy, Perry denied paternity.

Approximately a week before his murder by Virginia Beach Police, Perry came to see his 4-month old son for the first time.

Perry wanted to family and friends to meet his infant son so Kager drove Perry to Virginia Beach.

Another clarification, India Kager was a United States Postal worker.  She did not work in law enforcement.

*** For more information and updates about India Kager's murder, please follow her Mom on Twitter @GinaBest or on Facebook at Gina Best.

***Article information taken from***

According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, on September 5, 2015, four officers were surveilling 35-year-old Angelo Perry, who was allegedly the suspect in a murder investigation. Police believed he was about to commit a crime when they approached his car.
Sidebar:  So Angelo was about to commit a crime with his 27-year old India Kager (pictured above), the mother of his infant son, and their 4-month old son in the car?  Blank stare.  I digressed.
Police say Perry shot at officers first, and the four officers returned fire by shooting over 30 rounds into the car filled with occupants.  Although Kager was not the intended target, she was shot multiple times while in the [driver's] seat of [her] car. Perry and Kager were killed, but their infant son was unharmed.

The four Virginia Beach police officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues, which is routine.

Sidebar:  These murders took place in September.  Have the officers' names been released to the public?

“There’s no excuse for police firing a volley of 30 rounds of indiscriminate gunfire, and my sister was hit multiple times,” said Brandon Bailey, the victim’s brother.

This case is similar to a police shooting that took place in Louisiana on November 3, 2015,  where two black Marshals Derrick Stafford, 32, and Norris Greenhouse Jr., 23, while investigating a domestic violence complaint, shot into a car killing a white 6-year old boy named Jeremy Mardis and wounding his father.

However, within a week of the shooting, Stafford and Greenhouse were arrested and charged with second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.  They are currently being held on $1 million dollars bond each pending a full investigation by Louisiana State Police.

Michael Edmonson, superintendent of the Louisiana State Police, stated that body camera video helped the two marshals arrest. "I can tell you, as a father, it was one of the most disturbing things I've witnessed," Edmonson said of the footage.

Sidebar: I guess unjustified shootings of civilians, even if captured on cell phones, body cameras or dash cams, are only disturbing and worthy of prosecution if the cops are black and the victims are white.

Sidebar:  All the young people on Twitter and Instagram want to know is if Ms. Patti LaBelle cut James Wright Channel a check?

As you know by now, Singing James's YouTube video of his review of Patti LaBelle's Sweet Potato, which is only being distributed through Walmart, went viral which lead to the pies being sold out throughout North America in two weeks.

Well, Ms. Patti invited Singing James to her home for Thanksgiving dinner, and their meeting went a little something like this:

America has another teenager killed by a cop to add to it's growing and disturbing body count.

This time the teen is 16-year old Laquan McDonald of Chicago and the cop is 37-year old Jason Van Dyke.

And yes, the cold-blooded murder was caught on a “graphic,” “violent” and “chilling" dash-cam video, which was released last night (400 days after the teen's murder).

On abc7chicago.comCook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez described the execution-style murder of LaQuan by former police officer as shown by the video:

"October 20, 2014, Chicago police were responding to reports of car break-ins near 40th and Karlov when they came across McDonald. Officers said the teen, [later identified as Laquan McDonald,] who was a ward of the state, was acting erratically and had a knife he refused to drop.
At 9:57:36, McDonald has crossed over the white lane divider away from the officers, and Officer Van Dyke has taken at least one step towards McDonald with his weapon drawn.  The officer then opened fire on Laquan, whose arm jerks, his body spins around and he falls to the ground. While Laquan is falling to the ground the defendant takes at least one more step towards him, at which point the angle of the dash camera changes and we can no longer see the officer in the frame of the video. Two seconds later, Laquan McDonald is lying on the street on his right side, and the video captures what appears to be two puffs of smoke coming from the ground near his body. These puffs of smoke were later identified as clouds of debris caused by the fired bullets. At 9:57:51, McDonald is still lying on the street and the last visible shot is fired."
Alvarez said at this point, there is a pause as Van Dyke prepares to reload his gun. His partner tells him to hold fire and then walks over to McDonald and kicks away the teenager's knife.
Van Dyke acted "without legal justification and with the intent to kill or do great bodily harm, Jason D. Van Dyke personally discharged a firearm that proximately cause the death of LaQuan McDonald," according to court documents filed Tuesday. (SOURCE)
An autopsy revealed that McDonald was shot multiple times in the chest, the back of his arms and right leg. McDonald's family received a $5 million settlement from the City of Chicago in April 2015.

Van Dyke has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Laquan.
At bond hearing on yesterday, prosecutors said
Van Dyke opened fire six seconds after exiting his squad car as McDonald was walking away from him at 41st Street and Pulaski Road.
Van Dyke then fired 16 rounds at McDonald in about 14 seconds and was reloading when another officer told him to hold his fire.
Judge Donald Panarese Jr. ordered Van Dyke held without bail until he can review the video.  “I believe it's pertinent for a bond hearing,” Judege Panarese said of the video. “I'm sorry, but I'm holding you no bail until Monday.”

Another reality star has been indicted on bankruptcy fraud and this time it is Abby Lee Miller of the highly successful Lifetime Dance Moms.

According to
The grand-jury indictment of [Miller], who is accused of hiding payments she got from her appearance on the reality TV show, traces back to a night in January 2013 when Judge Thomas Agresti came across Ms. Miller’s “Ultimate Dance Competition” on television, according to court papers.
Ms. Miller had filed for bankruptcy in December 2010, facing $356,466.52 in debt, according to documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Pittsburgh. Her lawyers had said in early court papers that Ms. Miller had the potential to profit from the show, but money from those appearances wasn’t disclosed in the monthly reports that documented her income.
At one point in 2010, Ms. Miller told a court official that the reality show would bring in publicity “but no separate TV revenue,” according to court papers.
Ms. Miller told Judge Agresti that she could only afford to pay back a portion of the money she owes just a few weeks before the channel-surfing moment aired on television.
“I realized that there’s an awful lot of money coming into this plan—this case—and it hasn’t been disclosed,” said Judge Agresti said of that moment, according to a transcript of a Feb. 1, 2013, hearing
Lawyers for Ms. Miller did not immediately return requests for comment. (Source)

Raven-Symoné issues an apology on Facebook

Photo from Facebook
After a severe media backlash for her discriminatory comment about "ghetto names" last week, controversial The View talk show co-host and former child actress posted the following statement on her Facebook page:
My comments about discrimination have spun out of control. I'd like to begin by saying that I was not attacking a specific race, but repeating a name that was said in a viral video which has received over 2 million likes.
I have been denied many jobs because of my skin color, body size, and age. Each time I was rejected, my self esteem was negatively effected, so i empathize with those who feel victimized by what I said. We would hope that when it comes to hiring, our names, physical appearance, sexual orientation, and age would never outweigh our qualifications, but often times, they do, thats the truth and it sucks. But I should not be part of the problem, I should be part of the solution.

As an equal opportunity employer, I have never discriminated against a name....even though I said I would, it's not true. My comment was in poor taste. My lack of empathy towards name discrimination was uncalled for. I would also like to say that on Friday my account was hacked, those are not my words. (Source)

Once again, The View co-host Raven-Symoné is under fire for yet another racially insensitive comment aimed at the Black community.

On the October 8th episode of The View, former child actress admitted that she would not hire anyone whose name was "ghetto."

“I’m not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea,” said the admitted Lesbian.

Sidebar:  Who thought "ghetto" names would be a good topic for a show with a viewership demographic of Caucasian women between ages of 25–54? I digress.

The controversial talk show co-host's father, Christopher B. Pearman, penned an open letter on his Facebook page in response to his daughter's outrageous and racially insensitive comments:
To My Dear Friends,
There has been much talk today about my daughters comments on her show The View. People have been hitting me up all night questioning me about her remarks. Let me say this......I haven't managed Ravens career in over 10 years. This woman is grown, has her own management team, has her own opinions, right or wrong, and is responsible for her own words and actions. A woman wrote to me tonight and said she couldn't support my book because of the words of my daughter. What she fails to realize is that my book is about teaching your child to believe and achieve. Raven has achieved incredible success, and this cannot be denied!
Children grow up and become influenced by many things, situations and people. I certainly don't agree with what she said....but she is damn near thirty years old. She's a grown ass woman making grown ass mistakes. We all have been guilty of this. I did my best as her father, mentor and career manager.
I believe I did a Wonderful job. Aside from this inexcusable gaffe, her 29 years in the entertainment industry has been quite successful, for there have been only an Elite Few Child Stars to last this long and have little to no controversy. For this, I am Very Proud!
Raven is a really Beautiful, Sweethearted, Human Being.I should know. Her Mother and I Love her Very much and will always support her and have her back. Even if sometimes..........she says some dumb S#%T!

Here's What's Missing From Straight Outta Compton: Me and the Other Women Dr. Dre Beat Up
Photo from

Let me start off by saying that I saw Straight Out of Compton twice this past weekend.  It was a great movie.

My children, husband and former college classmates can attest to my fondness for N.W.A.'s first album Straight Outta Compton (mainly the title track and Express Yourself) and all of Ice Cube's solo albums.  In fact, my favorite in N.W.A members were Ice Cube and MC Ren.

With that being said, there were several thoughts that always floated in the back of my mind. One of them being: Whatever happened to Pump It Up! host and journalist Denise "Dee" Barnes?

I remember hearing about the infamous brutal assault by former N.W.A. member Dr. Dre on the popular Hostess that subsequently removed Barnes from the public's eye.
On January 27, 1991, at a record-release party for the rap duo Bytches With Problems in Hollywood, producer/rapper/then-N.W.A. member Dr. Dre brutally attacked Dee Barnes, the host of a well-known Fox show about hip-hop called Pump It Up! Dre was reportedly angry about a Pump It Up! segment hosted by Barnes that aired in November 1990. The report focused on N.W.A., and concluded with a clip of Ice Cube, who had recently left the group, insulting his former colleagues. Soon after the attack, Barnes described it in interviews: She said Dre attempted to throw her down a flight of stairs, slammed her head against a wall, kicked her, and stomped on her fingers. Dre later told Rolling Stone, “It ain’t no big thing – I just threw her through a door.” He pleaded no contest to assault charges. Barnes’s civil suit against Dre was settled out of court. (Source)
In a recent article posted on Gawker.comBarnes was asked to watch the Straight Outta Compton movie and  to provide her reflection on it.  Barnes writes, in part:
Th[e] event isn’t depicted in Straight Outta Compton, but I don’t think it should have been, either. The truth is too ugly for a general audience. I didn’t want to see a depiction of me getting beat up, just like I didn’t want to see a depiction of Dre beating up Michel’le, his one-time girlfriend who recently summed up their relationship this way: “I was just a quiet girlfriend who got beat on and told to sit down and shut up....."
Dre, who executive produced the movie along with his former groupmate Ice Cube, should have owned up to the time he punched his labelmate Tairrie B twice at a Grammys party in 1990. He should have owned up to the black eyes and scars he gave to his collaborator Michel’le. And he should have owned up to what he did to me. That’s realityThat’s reality rap. In his lyrics, Dre made hyperbolic claims about all these heinous things he did to women. But then he went out and actually violated women. Straight Outta Compton would have you believe that he didn’t really do that.
Barnes also dropped a major bombshell about the highly success biopic's producer F.Gary Gray and his connection to infamous Ice Cube interview that lead to Dr. Dre assaulting Barnes:
F. Gary Gray, the man whose film made $60 million last weekend as it erased my attack from history, was also behind the camera to film the moment that launched that very attack. He was my cameraman for Pump It Up! You may have noticed that Gary has been reluctant to address N.W.A.’s misogyny and Dre’s attack on me in interviews. I think a huge reason that Gary doesn’t want to address it is because then he’d have to explain his part in history. He’s obviously uncomfortable for a reason.
Barnes said that her life and career changed forever as a result of the brutal beating. She continues:
My life changed that night. I suffer from horrific migraines that started only after the attack.... When I get migraines, my head does ring and it hurts, exactly in the same spot every time where he smashed my head against the wall....
People ask me, “How come you’re not on TV anymore?” and “How come you’re not back on television?” It’s not like I haven’t tried. I was blacklisted. Nobody wants to work with me. They don’t want to affect their relationship with Dre....
I auditioned for the part that eventually went to Kimberly Elise in Set It Off. Gary was the director. This was long after Pump it Up!, and I nailed the audition. Gary came out and said, “I can’t give you the part.” I asked him why, and he said, “‘Cause I’m casting Dre as Black Sam.” My heart didn’t sink, I didn’t get emotional; I was just numb.
Most recently, I tried to get a job at Revolt. I’ve known Sean (Combs) for years and have the utmost respect for him. Still nothing. Instead of doing journalism, I’ve had a series of 9-5 jobs over the years to make ends meet.
According to Rhymes With Snitch, Dr. Dre opened up about his history of abusing women in a recent Rolling Stone Magazine article:
"I made some f**king horrible mistakes in my life. I was young, f**king stupid. I would say all the allegations aren't true – some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really f**ked up. But I paid for those mistakes, and there's no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again."
